The Certificates VET Trainer and Diploma: Vocational Education and Training Management are qualifications based on unit standards. These qualifications provide opportunities to individuals with industrial experience who want to make a career change or develop a career in Vocational Education and Training. In - service individuals in Vocational Education and Training can also advance their training and management competencies in a professional career orientated manner.

The Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training has three (3) sections: Languages, Education and Hospitality and Tourism.

INSTITUTIONAL CORE COURSES

  • Principles of Language Use (PLU 411S);
  • Computer User Skills (CUS411S);
    • Computer User Skills is an introductory computer course designed to enable students to effectively use basic functionalities of a Personal Computer (PC). The purpose of this course is to give students practical knowledge of widely used application software. This course is delivered via the e-learning mode using the Moodle platform. All formal and informal assessments for this course are performed online.
  • Information Competence (ICT512S);
    • Information Competence is designed to enable students to cope with the age of information, and to evaluate obtained information critically. The emphasis of this course lies on contemporary methods of information acquisition, i.e. using search engines on the Internet and Web 2.0 technologies. However, information gathered from conventional media will also be considered. Students will be required to create and publish information themselves, and to communicate information in the form of written reports or classroom presentations. The subject is presented online, via the UST’s e-learning platform. All assessments and all the instructional material are available via the e-learning platform.

THE WRITING UNIT (Book Now!)

The Writing Unit help was established to help students improve their writing and develop effective communication skills across the curriculum.  It is dedicated to enhance the quality of academic writing through developing students’ ability to plan, organise, write and revise academic papers in any subject.

It provides a supportive ad motivating environment where students can discuss their work with a trained consultant and receive help at any stage in the writing process.  Through one-to-one or group consultations, students will be able to share their work with a trustworthy professional, receive advice and guidance on improving their work; gain and develop their skills in writing, revising and editing.

  • Basic Portug u ese 1A (BAP111S) and 1B (BAP112S)
  • Basic Spanish 1A (BAS111S) and 1B (BAS1112S)

NATIONAL AND FOREIGN LANGUAGES (NON-FORMAL)

In addition to the English Communication/Service courses offered for formal qualifications, non - formal language proficiency courses in, for example, English, Afrikaans, French, Ger man, Spanish, Portuguese and Oshikwanyama, Oshindonga and Oshiherero shall be offered on a regular basis.
